So you've had a dog for a while now, and think you can handle another? It may be a great addition to your family to get another dog, but there are a few things you need to ask yourself first. Here are some things to think about
First of all, is your first dogs training complete yet? If not, how are you going to cope with trying to train two different dogs and various levels of obedience?
If training on your first dog isn't going well, Dave Cresswell might be able to help you out. I've heard a lot of great things about his dog training ebook.
It is certainly possible to do, but it would be a lot harder. You might want to consider waiting for a second dog until your first is well trained.
Secondly, how would your dog handle a new addition? If your dog doesn't get on with others well, you'll have to pick the breed of your second dog very carefully to make sure things go as smoothly as possible.
All dogs can be trained to get on with others, but it may be difficult for you if you're trying to train your new dog while your first is causing chaos because of the new addition.
Most of all, will you be able to devote the time needed to train a new dog while making sure your first has the same quality of life as before?
Having two or more dogs of similar ages is definitely possible, but really should be considered carefully.
